Smithing & Crafting

Turn raw ore into weapons and armour with Smithing, and wood or gems into bows and jewelry with Crafting.

Two Skills, Four Stations

Smithing and Crafting both turn raw materials into gear, but they use different stations scattered around the world:

Smithing: Smelt, Then Smith

Smelting ore into ingots at a furnace is straightforward and never fails. Smithing an ingot into a finished item at an anvil is a different story — it can fail, wasting the ingot into scrap metal at reduced XP. Your fail chance depends on how far above the recipe's level requirement you are (it drops to 0% once you're 15 levels over) and how good a hammer you have equipped, so it pays not to smith right at the minimum level if you can help it.

Once you've got ingots, each tier unlocks the same core set of recipes: a dagger, hammer, axe, pickaxe, sword, scimitar, kiteshield, full helmet, platebody, platelegs, and — from iron onward — arrow tips and fishing hooks.

Each station shows exactly what you can make, and what it costs, once you’re in range.

Tip: Higher smithing tiers (carbon steel and up) need a matching hammer tier equipped, not just the right level — check your Equipment panel before assuming a recipe is locked behind XP alone.

Crafting: Fletching & Casting

Crafting splits into two unrelated tracks under one skill:

  • Fletching — cut logs into bows and arrow shafts at a fletching bench. Bow tiers roughly track the same materials as Woodcutting's tree progression: shortbow (Lv. 5) → longbow (10) → oak (20/25) → willow (35/40) → maple (45/50) → bloodwood longbow (85).
  • Casting — combine a cut gem with a ring or amulet mould at a small furnace. Gold jewelry unlocks at level 40, climbing through quartz, sapphire, emerald, and diamond by level 80.

Unlike Smithing, Crafting recipes never fail — once you meet the level requirement and have the materials, the item is guaranteed.
