Gearing Up

Equipment slots, armour tiers, and where your gear actually comes from.

Your Equipment Slots

Open the Equipment tab in your sidebar to see everything you currently have equipped. The main combat-relevant slots are:

  • Head — helmet
  • Body — platebody
  • Legs — platelegs
  • Shield — kiteshield
  • Hands — your weapon (melee or bow)
  • Ammo — arrows, if you're using a bow

Your Equipment tab shows every slot at a glance — including the ones you haven’t filled yet.

Armour follows the same six-tier progression as your gathering tools — bronze, iron, steel, carbon steel, blood steel, and obsidian — with each tier requiring a matching Combat level to wear.

Choosing a Weapon

Melee weapons trade speed for power: a dagger swings fast but hits softer per blow, while a scimitar swings slowly for a much bigger hit. Which is better depends on the fight — see Combat & Ranged for the exact numbers. A bow is a separate track entirely, using the Ranged skill and requiring arrows to be equipped alongside it.

Tip: Your starter Bronze Hammer isn't a weapon — it's a Smithing tool for the anvil. Don't go looking for it in a fight.

Where Gear Comes From

There are four ways to get equipment, and you'll likely use all of them:

1. Smithing — craft it yourself from ore at a furnace and anvil. See Smithing & Crafting.

2. Monster drops — goblins, zombies, and skeletons all have a chance to drop weapons and armour when defeated.

3. The Marketplace — buy what other players are selling. See The Marketplace.

4. NPC Traders — a handful of starter tools are always in stock at the General Trader. See NPC Traders.
